Hm. Maybe Hope and I should coordinate airport arrivals, as I will need a ride, too.
Shall we all plan to stay at the con hotel, and should I book rooms? They seem to have a very good deal for executive suites ($112/night), with 4-person rooms going for $92/night.

Hmm...time for me to start looking into flights!
I was planning on booking a room, as well. I hadn't thought of sharing/getting rooms close by each other, 'though those are great ideas! I'm out of the Con mentality...which in my youth was: can we fit a fourteenth person in this two bed room? Now it's--OK, I guess someone could sleep in the extra bed...but I won't apologize for snoring. ;>

Hope--*giggles!* I was so happy when I could finally afford to attend a con and pay full-price for a private room--or at least a room that I shared with only one other person. It was bliss, the first time I did that. Were you going to come with Charles or by yourself? I'm going to see if I can persuade my friend Tricia to come, too--but she works at a school and doesn't like to fly, so I don't know if she could travel quickly enough. But, hey, it never hurts to ask.

It'll just be me, Chantal--Charles hates to fly more than he'll hate being a solo parent for the weekend. And Susan (Suki) doesn't think she can swing it at this point, or we'd be leaving behind two unhappy husbands!
The rates don't go up until June, so I wasn't planning on registering until after my next ER shift.

Ah, the days of Room-Stuffing..... I remember those. Fortunately we never went over 12 in a 2 bed room. Now, I'd rather stay offsite than room stuff. heh

If I could drive, I'd rather stay off-site, too. Much cheaper, that way, usually, both for food and lodgings.

My days of room-stuffing and being the nice one who sleeps on the floor so everyone else can get the bed are over. Admittedly, I did the insisting that I was the one on the floor so I can't blame anyone for that. But still... I'm very much into the private room thing these days. I may have to make a choice between Dragon*Con and FenCon. Given the vast price difference, FenCon would probably win... I would happily volunteer to pick up anyone from the airport, except I have no idea if I'd be able to get teh 18th off. I might not get into town until 8 or 9pm. But if flights come in after that time, I'll be happy to meet folks!

I don't mind sharing a bed, but I have gotten to the point in my dotage that I prefer to share a room with just one other person.

My brother may come. I won't inflict him on my friends for room-sharing at first meeting. So we'd get our own room. But let's make sure we all get in the same hotel!

I'm poking my head out of my copy-editing cave to say that I am so excited to see you guys. I'll be happy to do the chauffeur thing, as my schedule allows.
Chantal -- Talk your friend into going with you to ApolloCon (http://www.apollocon.org/). It's in Houston, so easy access for you.

A con in Houston? That isn't Revelcon? Awesome! (Revelcon's not bad, just X-rated in some places, like the Art Show...)

Chantal -- ApolloCon is (IMHO) a fun con, great people, growing but not huge, and reasonably PG rated. Racy panel topics are scheduled for late in the evening, and I don't think I've ever seen anything awful in the art show. Maybe some rare artistic nudity but nothing graphic. (It's one of my many cons this year. I'm also doing Conestoga and SoonerCon (both in OK), ArmadilloCon in Austin and of course FenCon. Oh! And NorWesCon in a few weeks in Seattle!)

OK, I've started looking at Airline tickets (Southwest is not yet open past August, which makes the pickings a bit slim). The big question that comes up is--Dallas International or Love Field? Is there a difference is convenience, commute time, sanity, etc?
Southwest flies to Love field...and has outrageous deals through August 14th. Figures!

Southwest flies to Massachusetts? Huh. I had no idea. Hope-- DFW International is more convenient to get in and out of. But if you get a cheap flight from Southwest, they only fly out of Love Field, and I'll still pick you up. Same for you, Chantal. Man, y'all are planners! I have trips to Birmingham and Washington DC coming up, and have done... Okay, I have hotel reservations, so that's something.
