The leadership has prepared a Submission Tracking Log to ensure that stories submitted for the zine are not forgotten, overlooked, or missed when it comes time for publication. Now WE know what you've sent, and YOU know at what stage it is in the editing and preparation for publication.
For this to be effective, however, we need the help of the writers. This post has instructions for how to submit your stories.
1. Write the story. Write lots of stories!
2. If you've used someone's character, get their approval on that use. Silence is consent, so if they haven't responded within a week, email again and CC the leadership. If a week after that they still haven't responded, then assume use is approved.
3. Email your submission in .rtf format to starrise.zine@gmail.com
4. Go to the Submission Tracking Log and enter the title of the story, the name of all authors, the date that you emailed it to starrise.zine@gmail.com, and the ranking characters that this story will be used to meet their support requirements.
The document is open and editable by all, so as soon as the information is typed it, it automatically saves. The editors and publisher will update the other fields as it goes through the editing process. You can check back anytime you want to see where it is.
Story Formatting Guidelines:
Remember, when you submit a story, a certain format is to be followed:
Telepathic communication between dragon and rider should be shown in italics. Words that need to be emphasized should be done in bold.
Separation between scenes should be indicated like so:
Words, Words, Words...
Keep some basic guidelines in mind for certain words. For example: goldrider, queenrider, bronzerider, brownrider, bluerider, and greenrider. Notice that they are all one word, and they are not capitalized. The only time they are capitalized is when they're used as the first word in a sentence or as a title.
Example: Ashlon looked at the bluerider for a long, silent moment. Finally, he spoke. "Bluerider, no insult was taken." He turned and looked at his wife. "My lady, I'm sure Bluerider E'dano would be willing to accept your apologies."
Wingleader, wingsecond, master, journeyman, apprentice, ect. follow the same convention.
There are a lot more things that could be pointed out, but we've done that elsewhere. These were just recurring misunderstandings that were noted as we put the zine together this go-round.
Remember: if the story is not properly formatted when submitted, it will be returned to the writer unedited for correction and resubmission. Click here for the submission format guidelines.
