I am an inactive member of Second Life (named Aryl Graves), but I have discovered that there are other 3D online virtual worlds out there, such as There.com, Active Worlds, and Moove.
They look rather interesting, though I'm wary. There.com at least, says that it is PG-13 rated, but Moove mentions "romance, hugs, kisses, and more" in its advertising, and Second Life also has its more adult elements. I do not want to get involved in the adult stuff, because you never know what kind of weird people you will run into, that way--though you can pretty much tell by their avatars' clothes or lack thereof.
But God, one of those would be such a cool place to build a virtual Weyr in! *WANTS*
They can cost a pretty penny if you allow them to, but There.com at least has a $9.95 one-time fee that will allow you full privileges. In most of these places, you have to pay a monthly fee to 'own' virtual land, however.
Some of them also allow you to download the software so that you can create your own virtual world on your computer. That interests me, but I'd also like to be able to share.
Has anyone else ever come across these? What did you think of them?
