We could just have two queens duke it out on the one hatching ground over the eggs with multiple fatalities and then no one would have to fight with D'ven. It would be kind obvious that we needed another hatching ground.
(I'm channeling my inner Anna. We haven't had a tragedy in at least a turn.)

Why am I foreseeing massive carnage ahead? O.o

I'm all for tragedy...chaos...still...it would be EASY to just know that one hatching hadn't happened and counting the days...we know the next laying will easily run into their being eggs on the ground.
I suspect the weyrleaders tend to their math about such things.
This is the boring answer, of course. Still, they WOULD know in advance. It could be that the weyr needs to rush around and find some appropriate clutching sands before they are needed...starting the ball rolling for the need to fix the destroyed grounds.
This would, of course, lead to the unearthing of remains in various states of smashedness and such....human and dragon....alike.

Maybe in a few issues. 10 or 20....

There's plenty of warm beach sand, but I can imagine that D'ven and the queenriders would not find that a satisfactory long-term solution to the hatching ground problem.

Nah, if it becomes a problem, they'll open up an annex nearby, or on an island that doesn't get hit by Thread... Future plots and whatnot...

Of course, I can imagine the more practical of the bunch throwing out the emotional reasons to avoid opening the northern sands...being a practical people...and I can imagine the miners and smiths involved in the maintenance and such of the weyr(s) would find it a useless and purely emotional reason for not doing what rightly needs to be done...
Still, there'd be plenty of sympathy, too. Would make or some fun discussions...probably started at the conclave meeting before they even returned to the weyr.

Miners and smiths are lovely people. Unfortunately for them, the decision isn't theirs.

Hehe. Well, speaking for those without power...they can find really funny ways to GAIN power...Yeah. Sure. We're getting right to those new storage rooms but the rock is unusually hard and the going is...cough...slow. You know. It'll be longer than we thought...

Okay. I'm thinking I might need to come up with some smiths and miners now...just for argument...er...roleplaying sake.

The Dragons eye...where is it? I was going to have T'lar mosey up there, but I need some information. How do you reach it? Is there access from the weyr (tunnel?) or is it assessable by dragon wing only? or both? If so where is the parking space for the beasts? Does it have a view of the outside or does it only look out on the Weyrbowl? Can anyone give me an image of the decor? Andy Oh!...and how much are the drinks??? I was reading that over at FF.net, and then in the download I think, lol thanks for the info. PS I've got a sight related question for you, on which island is the Weyr? I can't tell via the map. Also which hold island are near it. I've got an idea stewing in the back of my mind, about a comment I read early on and idea for which I don't know when I going to get done.

s526.photobucket.com/albums/cc346/starrise10/?action=view¤t=srmap-1.jpgYou found the post with the map, but there's a link to the a larger image. StarRise Weyr is on StarRise Island. The Weyr location is marked in red, with StarRise written in red. It may be hard to see. Maybe I'll see which of our wonderful artists I can persuade into doing some new maps for us, locating the Holds and Halls on 'em...

I have good sight only in my right eye, left eye is gone for using it. That would be helpful, also I was reading about the StarRise Island and a possable <sinp> copy/paste from the post I found it in. I got an story idea which I think might be adapted to this, Igen start perhaps to here idea.
