Hi, people. I may not be around as much for a bit, and may have to take off all together unexpectedly.
My Mom, who suffers from memory loss, and was diagnosed with heart failure in July, fell and broke her arm last week.
Today, she fell again. It looks like her hip is broken. It is too soon to tell how severe this will be, but more than likely things are Fubar. My poor step dad is at the end of his rope.
Prayers, however you conceive of them, would be welcome.

Thank you. Her hip is broken in 2 places, and she'll need a total hip replacement, today if the cardiologist clears her. And at times like this, I absolutely hate being a doctor. Statistics ran through my head last night instead of dreams....

She made it through surgery OK, and one piece of luck: they were able to pin the hip instead of replacing it. Funny...I was thinking a few days ago that my life is currently held together by baling twine and chewing gum. Thank you guys for continuing to be the chewing gum.

Hope,
Glad to hear your mom made it through surgery okay and they didn't have to do the replacement.
Prayers are on the way!

I greatly appreciate the support. She needed 3 units of blood, and that has me nervous because of her heart...it's fine if someone's watching her closely, but it's easy to give someone "too much of a good thing". Two of my older sisters are there now, so I'll be going up a little later in the month, after she's in the rehab unit.

Hope, my prayers got to you and your mom. My grandmother was 90 when she fell and broke her hip. She survived the sugery, but never made it home. I hope all goes well for you and her...

Andy, thanks, both for the support, and for your defense of our country. I only exist because my father's first wife, mother to an older brother of mine, died from service. She was in the South Pacific in WWII, and contracted TB. We never forget.

My 80+ aunt broke her hip this summer and has healed remarkably well. She still has to carry a cane for the tough spots but was out of the hospital and home in just a few days. She also got the pins.

Mom made it to Rehab today...not a guarantee, but ups her odds considerably from the baseline 50-50 prognosis. It will be at least 6 weeks, more likely closer to 12, before she is safe to go home, but things are honestly better than I'd expected at this point.

OK, I got optomistic a little soon.
My Mom has taken a turn for the worse, memory wise. I'll be out of communication probably from Thursday to Monday to take a trip up there this coming weekend. Unclear if I will bring Charles and the kids, as she is not currently reliably recognizing her kids, let alone her grandkids. Please forgive me if I currently have stories of yours to review...I wouldn't expect them back for another week or two at this point.

Hope--Oh, God...I didn't see this, earlier. How is your mother doing now?
My mother-in-law broke her hip after her stroke and was in a lot of pain from it before they decided to operate. Hope, if you need me to assist with reviewing stories, send them on. We have reliable power now, so I can do it without worrying that I'll lose computer access unexpectedly.
