My first pick for a con gathering would actually be CONvergence up in Minneapolis, which is the weekend after/of July 4th. The main reason is because their party rooms, which are two floors of rooms looking out over the indoor pool/courtyard, have always reminded me of weyrs and I've wanted to throw a Pern party there for ages. I'm game for anywhere, though... well, anywhere within reason.

Much as I'd like to suggest New England...it's not cheap, and certainly not central. On the other hand, it's hard to be more than 4 hours by car from anywhere else in New England.... What geographical areas are people from? Are there a bunch of you from Texas? (Though, honestly, Texas sprawls more than all of New England with New York thrown in.) Anyone near a good tourist destination to kill two wherries with one stone?

Andy and I are in California. Kris and Andrea are in Arizona. Kelli and Erin are in Washington state. Thom is in Illinois. Chantal, Susan, and Angel are in Texas. Natascha will shortly be in North Carolina. Uncle Bob is in Georgia. Dave is in Alabama. Terry is in Pennsylvania, I think? Yeah. Um. We're pretty scattered. Susan and Angel do D*C almost every year. Nat already has plans to go next year, as do I (as long as nothing major and life changing happens before then...). D*C is convenient in that there's that huge international airport right there so that even flying in from CA is pretty reasonable. Failing D*C, I would strongly urge Vegas in the off season because: 1. You can probably find a good flight deal regardless of the airport you leave from. 2. NICE hotels are really, really inexpensive. 3. Since all the casinos want you to spend money gambling, they're willing to feed you for really cheap. 4. It should be fairly easy to get a meeting room at a cheap price, if we want it. 5. Easy public transportation from airport to hotel. (also a benefit for D*C)

DC is a place I want to bring my kids. Vegas is a place I want to bring my sweetie. I wonder if the Star Trek Experience is still there....

Vegas is a place I want to bring my sweetie. I wonder if the Star Trek Experience is still there.... Alas, no. I was informed by one of my fellow passengers, flying down to D*C this year, that Star Trek: The Experience was closing its doors for the last time that very weekend. Las Vegas would be interesting as a backdrop for our gathering. I've only been there once, and that was just a day-trip up from Sedona.

Isn't there an amusement park near there? Orlando often has cheap fares and cheaper rooms, too...

Yes, that's Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. We used to have season passes to there when I was a kid. However if it's KC I am obligated to visit relatives I have no desire to visit ::shudder::
