Wherever Brant goes, there goes Zabryna...
Character name: Zabryna

Birthdate: 200.10.19 (34 in turn 34)
Birthplace: Fort Hold
Family: Brant, brother.
Matoren, husband (separated/estranged)
Ahsten, son (born 20.12.23)
Mariss, daughter (born 24.06.12)
Zachree, son (born 28.10.17)

General appearance: Angelina Jolie
Sexual orientation: Hetero
Firelizards: Brown Swindler
Personality: Zabryna is both an intensely private person, and a shockingly open person. Healer, wife, mother – she’s very open and expressive in the love she bears for her husband, the devotion she has to her children, the care and compassion she feels for her patients, and the abiding love she has for her parents and siblings. What she keeps private is the pain and grief she feels: for her husband’s unforeseen abandonment, the loss of a patient, the fear and worry as her children mature and start branching out on their own. Her joys she shares freely with all, but her worries she hides from everyone but her brother – who simply knows her too well to let her get away with it.
Her craft shows her much of pain and suffering, of loss and limitation. She feels a bright glow of triumph every time a patient heals, but those moments aren’t always enough to compensate for when a patient doesn’t heal completely, or dies. Caring, compassionate, but stern and cold when it’s what the patient needs, Zabryna cushions herself from being worn down by stress, depression, frustration, and grief by living in each moment off duty as fully as she can. Whether it’s family time with her children, singing with her brother, dancing in the dining hall, or any number of other activities, Zabryna throws herself into it with enthusiasm and good spirits.
She’s a dedicated healer, and while she puts her children first, healing runs an extremely close second. The welfare of her patient comes first – and if that means making had decisions, then she’ll do it and she’ll fight for the right to do so – or her patient’s right to do so. She believes that healing the body is only half the task, and not even the most important part. Body, spirit, and mind are all involved and necessary, and all must be addressed for a full healing to be accomplished.
General history: Zabryna cames from a large, close-knit family. While neither of her parents were crafters, her father’s mother was, and her mother’s father was. Some of her siblings became crafters, as well, and some did not. Each, however, pursued a life-path that was their choice and which they are content doing. Zabryna’s fondest childhood memories are of the evenings spent with her parents, grandparents, and siblings, gathered together playing music, singing, acting out skits, telling stories, and generally just spending time together, and enjoying each other’s company. It is from this time that she learned how to separate her work from her family life.
Her favorite brother, Brant, entered the Harper Hall when she was four. However, because of the proximity of the Hall to Fort Hold, she still saw him almost every day, and he often was able to continue joining the family in the evenings, after supper. As she grew older, she started going to visit him – and had her first introduction to healing. While her voice gradually developed into a lovely instrument – flexible, emotive, vibrant (think Madonna) – and the Harper Hall would readily have admitted her, Zabryna applied to the Healer Hall when she turned twelve. After six turns of study, she became a journeyman. At her first posting, she met her husband and shortly afterwards married him. Their first child was born a turn later. Over the next ten turns, Zabryna and her husbands travelled often to new postings, and three more children were born to them. At 30, Zabryna was reassigned back to the Healer Hall. She had performed with exemplary skill during her journeys and the Hall was eyeing her to fast-track to a master rank. There were never enough masters, and Zabryna’s requests for a permanent posting, in conjunction with her reputation and proven skill, made her a very strong candidate.
After four turns of intensive training at the Hall, Zabryna was promoted to the rank of master – and given a permanent assignment at StarRise Weyr. As she packed and prepared to leave, her husband announced that he would not be going with her, and gave no reasons. Since he was holding a couple of duffle bags with his clothes and belongings when he informed her of his choice, she had no time to recover from the shock before he left their apartments. She wasn’t able to locate him prior to leaving, either – and so arrived at StarRise with her marriage in question, her emotions in turmoil, and her children upset and confused.
