Many of you know I graduate from my residency in ob/gyn next September 1 and had applied for a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic gyn surgery. Well, in spite of graduating late (everyone else graduates July 1) and only being able to interview at one fellowship, I matched! Starting September 1, I'll be continuing my training with Dr. Prabhat Ahluwalia in Utica, NY. Yeah, it's a looooooooooooong way from the Phoenix sunshine, but it's only a 2-year commitment. And it's a 3 hour drive from my husband's family in Ottawa, and we plan to come back this way when I'm done.
So it's wonderful news! I am thrilled! Yay!

Hey, Congratulations! I think that puts you only about 4 hours from us! (We're 2 1/2 hours east of Albany.)

Andrea, that's wonderful! Congratulations!! I wish it weren't so far away, but getting to see your in-laws is a good thing, too. So yea!

Congrats Andrea!! That's marvelous news! If things here go according to plan we should be living out somewhere near Syracuse way--not too far a throw from Utica!

Utica looks to be an hour west of Albany, Syracuse about 40 minutes further from Utica. We are about 2 1/2 hours east of Albany, which makes us neighbors!
When are you guys respectively moving? We might want to consider AlbaCon....

I forgot to update you guys on the weird turn of events in this. Three days after I matched into this fellowship, I got an e-mail from the program director saying the hospital in Utica didn't want to pay my salary. So since then I've been in this awful limbo of not knowing what's going to happen. The AAGL who is the parent organization of these fellowship is pretty angry about this and are trying to get the hospital to pay me. Who knows how that will end up. I interviewed with a bunch of practices down in Tucson, but I can't tell them anything until I hear about the fellowship-- which they don't like and they keep asking me to write them letters declaring my intent, which is irritating me, and which I can't do. So that's me.
I enjoyed having lunch with Kelli and Kris last weekend. It's too bad such a sad event brought Kel to town, and it took this to finally get me and Kris together. But at least it happened. And I'm still sick! Ugh!

Has there been any further news about your fellowship, Andrea? I hope you've been able to find someplace to work.
