Ok since there is the possibility of hearing difficulties in pern, I was just wondering, about the added possibility of hearing tests and evaluations in early childhood.
Who would be responsible for carrying out such tests and evaluations?
To what extent would their knowledge be?
What tools and equipment would they use, being at their current technological development?
I have experienced enough tests and witnessed enough to know what is involved, but I am just curious as to what level it's at on pern. So any ideas?

Generally, the Hold's healer would do that--or, at a Weyr, one of the Weyr's healers. We don't really have pediatricians--they'd be masters teaching at one of the main Healerhalls. So any journeyman healer would be trained in how to do it. They would give vision tests, as well.

Ok that makes more sense, so we would be looking at them using their own specific training, and being able to determine tell tale signs and symptoms, what about maybe having a follow up procedure to confirm the original diagnosis, as well as keeping a closer watch on those with family history of conditions? Sorry I know I am pushing the topic a bit but I do have a good reason

This is going to be very basic, remember--tuning forks and the like. There is no high-tech method, and mostly you'd have to wait until they should be talking, and aren't. They'd be able the visualize the ear drum...say nothing that couldn't be done by a family doctor now. Which, I'm sad to say, is not much.
They'd probably take the kid to a senior healer at a larger hold, but it's mostly to delay definitive bad news. My take, anyhow!

Well that fits with what I did think at first, and yeah low tech, but the senior healer makes more sense about the news though, I suppose that you wouldn't be satisfied getting news like that unles it was from someone with more experience, yeah that answered all my questions thankyou!! now all I have to do is use it!!
