Ah, fantasy. It seems to me that there is less truly original fantasy being done these days. I'm currently reading C.S. Friedman's Feast of Souls, and at page 260 0f 564, I'd recommend it. I love Sharon Shinn's Mystic and Rider; I'm not sure where her Archangel series goes, here or under SF, but I'd also recommend that. So, I know somebody's reading something good! Fess up and share!

I just finished The Magicians and Mrs. Quent by Galen Beckett (I think it was Beckett). It's supposed to be an Austen/Bronte-esque fantasy. It's the first book of a trilogy. It can be predictable at times (what book isn't?) but there are some really new and interesting things in it, and overall I thought it was well written. I'll be buying the second book when it comes out next year, if that's any indication.

Patricia Briggs. She has several fantasy books out and I just love her stuff.

Robin McKinley. The Blue Sword is comfort food for the soul, Spindle's End is quirky and wonderful, Deerskin is profoundly disturbing (warning: child abuse/incest) but also profoundly beautiful, and Sunshine (her first book for adults) is an incomparable mix of real world and fantasy, blood and chocolate.
How could I have forgotten them?

I am happily reading Highway to Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore. It arrived a week or two ago, but I am only just now getting around to reading it. Lincoln's Melancholy is glaring at me because I've left off reading it to read Highway. It's so overly sensitive.

I finally managed to catch up on all the RCM books. Just finished Highway to Hell last night. I have but one question: When's the next one coming out? If only I could get my neice to read them, too... I'm trying!

Anna--Give her one for Christmas! That's what I did last year with Hell Week.
