There are some awesome books out there mischaracterized as Young Adult. The Harry Potter Series is an excellent example. My picks of things I've read or reread recently: The Wild Magic quartet and Protector of the Small quartet by Tamora Pierce. Her other books are good, but these, along with the duet Trickstersr's Choice and Trickster's Queen, are my favorites. Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement Moore. An edgy "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" meets MTV's "Daria". East by Edith Pattou. An incredible retelling of "East of the Sun, West of the Moon". Once upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris. A tongue in cheek fairy tale. So, anyone with recommendations? I only have a few more weeks before I'm not allowed to buy any books until after Christmas....

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer rocked! I wasn't as satisfied with the 4th book as everyone else I know seemed to be, but whatever. I still liked it. And I'm not even that into vampire/werewolf books.
Rosemary Clement Moore used to write Pern with us. I have been looking for her Prom Date from Hell book, but I've been unable to find it. We've got to show support to our Pern Fandom writers who successfully cross over to being successul writers!

Just read Hell Week, Rosemary's second. The computer ate my first comment, proof that dark forces are at work. I liked it at least as much as the first book, and I actually think I like it more. The heroine, Maggie, is showing her humanity a little more, the way we often do as we grow up. The trouble is dire, the plotting tight, the characters interesting, the humor unquenchable. It's the blend of drama, darkness, and humor that makes me enjoy it so much. I've already pre ordered book 3.

I'd like to put in a plug for a YA book coming out next month. "Fortune's Folly" by Deva f*gan is lovely, a fairy tale about a girl who doesn't believe in fairy tales.
I also just finished "Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark", which blends enough real WDW trivia with fantasy to make it utterly charming.

I'm reading Highway to Hell now, and I love that it's set in southern Texas.
And Zeke Velasquez...Mmmmmmmm! *swoons*
Hah! And now, Aerden's ticked off that I've found a fictional character who I think is at least as hunky as he is!
Me: "And, FYI, Aerden, Paul is pretty hot, too."
Aerden: "That Paul fellow and I will have to have words. I am the handsomest man in your brain, not he."
Me: *giggling* "You're imitating the way he talks!"
Aerden, disgruntled. "I am not!"

In the "Good News, Bad News" category for today...
My copy of "Highway to Hell" finally arrived! Hooray!
I'm on call this weekend and will have no time to read! Boo!
(And since I gave up self-destructive behavior for Lent, I can't even start it tonight...because I know what would happen. I stayed up all night finishing both book one and book two!)

In that case, I will not further tempt you to read it...though I'm tempted to. (g)

I personally think we need a bronzerider who looks like Zeke Velasquez. He could be named Z'kel. (g)

Having finished Highway, I tend to agree with you. Wow, what a book! It stretched my Lent resolution severely...but I was good. Read it in 3 nights instead of staying up all of one.

Anna--That's awesome!!! *does the Snoopy dance* Aerden: "What's the Snoopy dance?" Me: "It means you jump about like a hyperactive puppy." Aerden: "I'll pass. I have children. They're quite enough."
