Natali, Weyrwoman for gold Maeth
Fort Weyr Persona Sheet
Name: Natali
Age/Birthdate: 42 (I 193.11.17)
Hair: Dark brown, almost black; curly and waist-length, braided for Threadfall and otherwise left in a braid or tail for everyday wear. Curls frame her forehead and temples.
Eyes: Leaf-green, with strong eyebrows and thick lashes. They are her best feature.
Height: 5' 11
Weight: Somewhere between 140 and 160 lbs. Has a womanly figure, if a modestly endowed bust.
Complexion: Smooth, light olive; takes care to protect her face and hands from windburn.
Facial features: A heart-shaped face with a small, stubborn chin and high cheekbones; straight nose, full and generous mouth, all dominated by her eyes. (Media reference: Joanna Pacula).
Voice: Somewhat husky and warm; very expressive.
Costume: Natali wears blouses and skirts, or dresses, but is comfortable wearing a shirt and trousers as well. Her clothes are nearly new as they can be; she takes excellent care of them. She has gowns for every occasion that can possibly arise—and will send a dress to the storerooms once it’s been worn. (She knows from experience how Lord Holders and their Ladies talk on seeing a Weyrwoman in the same gown more than once—and someone in the Lower Caverns would surely appreciate the dress). Her riding gear is done in wherhide dyed bittersweet brown trimmed in umber. She sometimes wears combs or ribbons in her hair. Her favorite colors are vivid ones; she loathes anything pale, pastel, or beige.
Weapons: None.
History:
Natali was born at Sentinel's Pass Hold in Crystal territory, named for the tithe-road it overlooked from its crag. Her father Domrick is known to be tight with a mark and the sire of enough children to found a second Hold. Natali is his only legitimate daughter, and Domrick planned to make the most of her marriage potential. But Natali shot up to nearly six feet in height and developed a mind and will of her own. She rejected and was rejected by her suitors; when she turned sixteen, her father gave her an ultimatum--accept a suitor by the next Turn, or he'd find the most backward, indigent Hold on Pern with a male not too old or crippled to beat sense into her daily.
Three months later, M'raun, a bronzerider for Crystal, came to Sentinel's Pass on Search and claimed Natali for the queen egg. Once Domrick stopped laughing, he wished his girl good luck and washed his hands of her. Six days later, Domrick watched in stunned disbelief as Natali Impressed gold Maeth at Crystal Weyr.
Natali rose quickly through the goldriders' ranks and made Junior Wingsecond by her twenty-third birthday. Tragedy struck when M'raun, who had become her weyrmate, died in Threadfall. Natali miscarried their child a day later. She went to her father's hold to recuperate and returned in a very short time, determined to drown her grief in work. When her predecessor transferred out of Crystal, Natali stepped into her place as Junior Weyrwoman/Senior Wingsecond of the Queen's Wing--not that her relationship with the Senior Weyrwoman made her transition an easy one.
Weyrwoman Kirylyn was stubborn and notoriously outspoken; Natali tried to be diplomatic in public but was far more open in private. The two women clashed often over Weyr policy and Natali's personal life; after M'raun's death, Natali’s lovers were mostly bronzeriders who were caught (not all unwillingly) in the unsubtle rivalry between the Weyrwomen. The conflict deepened over the question of renegades in Crystal territory; Natali wanted to have them tracked down and executed, while Kirylyn wanted the Holds to handle their own problem. The situation worsened when a group of Crystal riders "accidentally" stumbled over a nest of renegades, killed several, and put the rest to flight. Nothing was ever proven, but rumor held that Natali had instigated the raid. Several riders were demoted or transferred due to that incident. Natali finally put in for a transfer, and to her surprise was accepted at Fort Weyr. She left almost immediately, arriving at Fort on 21.10.01.
When Lysera, the Fort Weyrwoman, left the Weyr due to a debilitating injury on 22.08.28, it was decided that the first gold to rise would be Senior for Fort. Maeth rose before the other Fort golds, making Natali Weyrwoman. Although her partnership with J’ton was formal at best, B’relan’s succession to that position in 23.04.06 has proven a much more satisfying partnership.
Natali’s tenure as Weyrwoman has been marked by the death of several Fort goldriders, renegade attacks, and one disastrous Hatching, but she is determined to do well regardless of setbacks. She has learned to rein in her immediate impulses and listen to counsel, especially as B’relan has a calmer head in such matters. She is also an able administrator of the Weyr’s resources, and enjoys a friendly working relationship with her Second, Jeysa, gold Kinumeth’s rider.

Personality
Natali is a doer. Active, intelligent, observant, and impatient at delay, she throws herself into her work and doesn't come up for air until it's gone. She is used to making leadership decisions and shouldering responsibility. Her final turns at Crystal taught her the fine art of diplomacy: that of telling someone to go play in Thread, and doing it so well that they look forward to the outing. As Weyrwoman of Fort, Natali has at times slid a little sharp sarcasm into her manner, but never without cause—she is a firm believer that courtesy is a given, but insolence must be earned.
She is extremely approachable. When not needing to be the Weyrwoman, Natali shows a warm friendliness to all, coupled with a rakish sense of humor. She has a habit of muttering something risque or outrageous under her breath, and then repeating something innocuous when questioned. She has dignity but not arrogance; Natali is well aware that nothing crashes so quickly to the ground as the overblown ego, and tries to avoid it. Not that she could ever develop one; it’s not in her nature to lord it over people, although she will take every advantage her rank offers her when it comes to dealing with Holders and strengthening the Weyr.
Her mother, Lady Sohela, believed her daughter should learn how to really run a Hold, and so Natali knows how to cook, clean, and manage--and blesses each day that she doesn't have to do the former two. She truly enjoys her work, although she suffers from occasional headaches from eyestrain, and she loves mingling with people. Natali is quite social; she loves to dance, talk, hear music, and play card games (she plays a wicked hand of dragon poker). People interest her.
Chief among Natali's faults is her ruthlessness. Nothing deflects her from achieving her goals or purposes; she won't give up, give in, or reflect on past mistakes. She can get too caught up in following a goal, sacrificing human contact for the satisfaction of a job well done. If she feels she doesn't need advice or help, she won't ask for, nor take, either. This ruthless streak is going to be the end of her one day.
She is considered a beautiful woman, will admit to some vanity, and greatly enjoys the company of men. Not promiscuous, at least not on Kylara's scale, Natali is on “friendly terms” with several Fort riders. She never flaunts an attachment or keeps a partner who makes her life difficult. She and B’relan are friends who just happen to share a bed twice a turn when their dragons rise to mate; otherwise, Natali isn’t interested in long-term weyrmating. For one thing, she wants to keep the leadership at Fort stable; for another, the last thing she wants is to fall in love with another dragonrider who might die in Threadfall.
As far as friends, Natali is pleased to call both Jeysa and Tessalyn hers, as well as Weyrhealer Gilanna, Headwoman Jonsala, and several of the Lower Caverns women and female dragonriders. Although she misses not having someone with whom she can be Natali and not The Weyrwoman, it’s all part of the job—and she believes the situation will change eventually.
