Hello, I've been enjoying looking over your site and I am very impressed with the fanzine (I found issue #26 through one of the forum links). It has been wonderful fun to read. I am taking my time and savoring both the stories and the artwork. But even more than the writing and art I have been impressed by the warm and friendly atmosphere that you have here. I'd very much like to join your group as a reader for now, and then maybe as I get a good feel for the history and such I can contribute some writing too. I looked at the subjects in the Welcome and FAQ forum, but I do not see any clear instructions about how to join. I've signed up at the yahoo groups for the SR_I_Weyr, but when I tried to also sign up for the Star Rise OotB group through the button on your web page, it said that the group does not exist. Is that an error? I want to be sure and get #28 when it comes out in March, and is there a place to find #27? I just wanted to check and see if there was anything else I needed or could do to join. I may have passed over information you already have written somewhere. Just direct me like a drudge. I'll usually obey. Thanks for creating such a nice window into the world of Pern. Kat

Oooh! Hi there! I'm Geo one of the zombies they keep around here to write things every now and again. Welcome oh reader and generally awesome person to StarRise.
As for your technical question, one of the Admins is better suited to that. They have this innate sense that detects newcomers so I would expect one shortly.
Welcome again and enjoy the reading!

Hi, Kat, and welcome to StarRise! First, let me assure you - you are already a member. All it takes is registration on this forum to be a member! The mailing lists are handy sometimes, but certainly not requirements for membership. The Out of the Blue mailing list was set up as a place to upload our new zines, but then we discovered that it couldn't handle the file sizes. Oops! So we found an alternative. You are very welcome to be a reader for as long as you like, but I hope you'll also feel comfortable participating in the discussions, and initiating posts, here on the forum! We're much more than just a collection of people who write stories - we're a group of friends and we always enjoy having a new friend to talk to. When you're ready to write, we'll happily encourage you! And thanks for the heads up about the 27/2 link - I forgot to update the info post when I removed the released post from Announcements! The link is there now, and here for you: www.box.net/shared/zn1mp0hedlThank YOU for all the compliments! It's reassuring and warming to know that we're managing to create the atmosphere we want for StarRise. I'm so glad you found us!

Hi Geo and Anna, and thanks for the welcome.
Thanks too Anna for fixing the link to 27/2. So happy to have more to look forward to reading. In fact, I think I am becoming addicted to Pern. lol Tonight I was watching a music concert called Celtic Thunder on DVD from Netflix. When all the singers came out in long leather jackets and started to sing while taking this very dramatic male pose, I instantly thought- they could be dragon riders, or harpers! Ooo, that one with the blond hair is a harper for sure! And look, there's Peimer.... lol I think my husband was giving me looks that suggested I've really lost it.
Anyway, glad to be here and I look forward to getting to know all of you behind the stories as well. Kat

Hehe, thats awesome about the concert. I don't play any Harpers, but I 'fess up to one very grumpy DragonHealer and his near blind brown, and a slightly wild and yet unplayed blue weyrling.
(Note to self: Write Weyrling.)

Yes Geo, do write that weyrling. And I can certainly understand a grumpy dragonhealer. I am a massage therapist, which I love doing, and sometimes I also do home health care when my business is slow (like now with the economy). When people are sick or in pain, or just unable to do things for themselves, they can be soo difficult to please. I know I have to silently count to myself at times to keep from being a little grumpy in reaction. The near blind brown would be an interesting twist. I like it when characters have flaws. It makes them very real and easier to relate to. Kat

I got the download, its going to take time to read, I am more of a reader/feedback/beta than a writer of stories, outside of bit now and then, also the SR Atlas I was umable to download it either.

Kat--You know, massage therapy would be a useful thing for a person to do at a Weyr. (g)
StarRise is a fun place to be, so I'm really glad you're enjoying the stories and the company. They are what drew me in, too, back when I joined.
