I'm posting this here because it's the appropriate topic, but I'm actually asking on behalf of my dad. He's looking for a natural supplement to help relieve his arthritis pain, that he can take in conjunction with the prescription medicine. I quick Googling shows me that ginger extract may help (is ginger the miracle root or something? It cures or helps everything!), but I wanted to find out if anyone had any other recommendations?

Fish oil is my number one recommendation. Glucosamine Chondroiten is also helpful. Rum soaked golden raisens only work if you drink the rum!
If the arthritis is in his hands, a paraffin wax bath is very helpful!

My husband and I once had a kiosk of herbal packs of all different shapes and sizes. What we recommended to people who came to us was 1. Getting 1 (or 2 if both hands were affected) hand packs (shaped kind of like oven mitts) that could be nuked and then worn warm to ease the pain; 2. Was rubbing eucalyptus oil product on the aching joints, as it warmed up when rubbed and retained the warmth (kind of like Bengay, but less processed.)
I'm sure you could find these on the web somewhere...

Okay, fish oil and eucalyptus oil rubbed in. The arthritis is in his knees, I believe. I'd also tell him about the rum-soaked golden raisins, but I think his boss might object to him drinking on the job!

I highly recommend the glucosamine chondroitin. Mark takes that for his joints, and it has helped him a lot. He still has flare-ups, but they only last a day or two, now, instead of the several days they used to last, before he took the stuff. He also takes fish oil, but that's more to lower cholesterol. I'll have to suggest the eucalyptis oil to him.
