OK, I'm going to post this quick before Anna and Chantal can talk me out of it. I'd like to challenge each of you to write a poem for the next OOtB, and specifically, a sonnet, haiku or limerick. For extra credit, do one of each. For our undying admiration, do one of each about the same topic! There once was a rider from Igen.... ;D

Why on earth would I try to talk you out of it?

*Glares at hateful sonnet with passion*
Does it have to be one of the three mentioned? I can sorta write poetry, but the three you've mentioned are me weak spots.

We do not wish to stifle you with rules And chain your words in joyless drudgery. I'm sure you face enough of that in school And in this place would wish to breathe more free. The patterns are a challenge, or a game; A way to cage your passion; if you find They deaden it, instead, t'would be a shame To kill enjoyment for a foolish rhyme! So write your truths in words that suit you best And in the pattern truest to your mind. This challenge here is meant to tempt, not test Nor do we wish to leave your muse behind. Write what you like; we're sure to like it, too, If what you write reflects what you hold true.

Show-off. Yes, I am way impressed. That was neat! It would take me a while to do that. And now, I shall work on a sonnet or several. Various characters are now clamoring for one because they are jealous of Galenna and D'nar from Fort 9, for whom I wrote a whole slew of sonnets, years ago.

Submit them the normal way, Geo! And yes, that was sort of showing off, so the is warranted. I can very nearly think in iambic pentameter, so a sonnet that isn't trying to be "art" takes me about 5 minutes. If I want it to be meaningful...hours. Chantal--I reread the Galenna and D'nar sonnets recently; we were pretty good all those years ago! I was thinking that it might be interesting to do a series between G'rille ['Gree', previously Garafille] and Aerden on the subject of our upcoming story...but in Haiku. Little snapshots of the events, emotions, conflicts.... Whaddaya think? (Just got a major story idea. Bloodshed, mayhem, massive carnage, incredible action...and I have to figure out how it fits in with my Existing story line!!!! Hmmm...does the villain write haiku?)

Hope--I love the idea! Aerden is telling me he's pleased with the idea because classical haiku are actually more difficult than they look. So yes, count me in. Maybe we could even use them as the starter for each scene, or something.
Heh...My ex-villain, Paul, writes haiku. He also writes love poems. I'll have to show them to you, sometime. Did I ever send you a copy of "Remorse?"
