Filk songs, for the uninitiated, can be called Folk Songs of the Future. They're really Folk Songs of other worlds and times, and usually show up late at night at science fiction conventions. I've heard some excellent filk over the years, a little of it Pern-based.
So--if you have a filk that you can post here without violating copyright, please do! (Chantal, this means you!!!)

::chuckle::
By violating copyright, I take it you mean the filk has to have original lyrics as opposed to being someone else's published work?

Occasionally I might whip up a little bit of a tune, kinda sorta. I mean, I can write it and sing it to myself, but if you're even marginally sane you won't ask me to sing it to you. and, unfortunately, I have a bad habit of doing this as 'filler' instead of artwork when I'm putting zines together, so I don't sign 'em either. Now I can't remember what was mine and what might not have been!

I have on occasion written filk because well... I think it's fun to take a popular song and change around the lyrics and make it sad or funny. I just kind of did this at our resident's retreat last month to the tune of Hotel California, which I did sing. Drunkenly. But hell, we were all pretty toasted by that time.
I usually manage to get all of the lyrics as my own, but sometimes I have to use some of the original lyrics because they work so much better... I think my "Walk Like an Igenite" is all mine though. I'll look for it and if it works, I'll post it.

I've got some filks I did for Fort and a few "songs" not set to any particular tune. I've also got "Ten Good Reasons To Impress A Bronze" on my hard drive, with "Ten Good Reasons To Impress A Green" . . . somewhere else.

OK, somebody bring Chantal a generator already! She did a filk some years ago that just awed me. I don't know the title--a fragment from it: Nimble fingers Tell my story As memory beckons back in time To a dark corner And a stranger Whose hand reaches out toward mine..... So, I want that one. I also would love to track down the author of the Teaching Song, "The Thread is Not Your Friend". It's very cute, a teaching song for the very young.
