Ooooh, I can't forget my first Pern character. That's because she's bound up with my first and only fandom grudge. I created her for Crystal Weyr (I see several of you nodding already); her name was Tamar, she was a green-eyed blonde, and she carried a 13-inch beltknife. Kris Spooner had enormous fun when I transferred Tamar to High Reaches years later; her bronzerider E'mett asked to see the knife, and when Tamar unsheathed it, he said, deadpan, "Now THAT'S a knife." (I still haven't gotten inside Tamar's head. Go figure.) My second character was K'nelan (a K name, yay!--not), a young dragonhealer who got Searched and Impressed a big bronze. My third character, Camigena, was a little closer to the stereotypical Mary Sue, in that she'd been abandoned at Fort Weyr, adopted by a well-loved character (Shae), was a talented little musician, and an even more talented little hellion, who just happened to be cute as hell. I think the last character I have with a K name is Karayan, gold Armagnath's rider at Igen. She's a tall dark-haired beauty who knows how to use a knife, has a quick wit, and no holdbred hangups about sex. She also screws up on a regular basis and takes her lumps. Right now, those involve a few attempts on her life.

Hi, Ginny, and welcome!
This section is really where we commiserate over how awful our first writing in fandom was; I'm going to ask Anna to move your poem to the Harper Hall section, since it belongs better there. where songs and poems generally go.
The new zine, as well as the preceding two, are available to download. Are you interested in making up a character and playing? We do some plotting in the forums, but most of the writing takes place off-line, with the twice yearly zine as the big payout for all the hard work!

I suppose I should 'fess up to my first officially approved character in Pern fandom. Her name was Nalana. She was the daughter of a Lord Holder. Her brother was a bronzerider. she had long, long red-gold hair. Knee-length long. Emerald green eyes. She was mute. And she heard all dragons. She Impressed a gold dragon. At least I didn't start her name with a K.... But yeah - major Mary Sue character. It was also a brand new Pern club that lasted all of four issues and the last issue was essentially ten stories. Nine of them were mine. In my own defense, I want to say that I tried to do something different and interesting with the whole HAD thing. How practical it actually was, I don't know. But I tried!

My first...gah, it wasn't Z'rat, honestly. It was a goldrider, Lessandra, who timed it back to Earth, forgot she was a dragonrider became an Animorph and thought her dragon was just a voice in her head. It was bad. I am so glad I lost (read teacher confiscated) that piece of drivel. Z'rat was created along with two girls Kylina and Lyra, Kylina was at Storm Fires and Lyra was at a different Weyr, and they were both riders of Green Pateth. (I wanted something I could remember.) Kylina was a holder's daughter who wanted to be a trader, or something, where she didn't have to be a lady and Lyra was a trader who wanted to be a lady. I got fed up with Kylina and wrote her out a transfer. Lyra was part of a Weyrling class that somehow came to be made up of some old friends of mine. There was Chrystabell who wrote Chrystabell, gold Selenth's writer. K'nan (green Maylenth), D'sian (bronze Worsieth), Jerrica (green, forgot the name), and this brown rider whose name I can't remeber but was exceptionally clumsy. And Mac and Ty (twins) had their twin charaters, and there was Cerrin who rode a blue and wanted to be like the other female bluerider in the Weyr and cary a whip. Oh and Livana, the first candidate Olenth searched, but she wasn't that bad. Usefull, in fact. As for Z'rat, the original had red hair and brown eyes and a very Mary Sue personality. I was really into RPGs back in high school, Pern and Valdemar mostly...

Oh, my!!! Yes, we all have our past literary skeletons, don't we? I think I had more than my fair share, since my early pre-fandom writing included LotR and Watership Down along with Pern....

I've a idea or two stewing, at the moment, I can't write for long, or type for long, a fall two weeks ago in making my fingers go numb if I put too much stress on them.

My first Pern character was Lioren, green Silveth's rider, of Southern Weyr. She was completely unmemorable because, at the time, I was trying my very best to NOT write a Mary Sue character. So Lioren was extremely ordinary. I had a male character at Southern, whose name began with an R, but all I can remember about him is that he was fun, and I think he delivered the mail. Yes, even back then, I was thinking about the mail! My third character was the goldrider. I never intended to write a goldrider, but I wound up being asked to be Weyrwoman, so...yeah.

There's Watership Down fanfic groups??? Oh, thank GOD I never found that out. I'd still be writing about rabbits.

*giggles!* Yes, but now you write about F'lerin, which is the same thing, only human.
