I've been rereading the Pern books again and thought if anyone was interested I might post some questions to see how much of Pern we remember or really know. Anyone interested?

1. What do the initial P.E.R.N stand for? 2.How many colonists first landed on Pern? 3.What were the names of the three ships that brought the colonists to Pern? 4.In what year after Landing did Thread first fall? 5.A common expression is "By Faranth's Egg!" Who was Faranth? 6. How many original Dragons were there? 7. Who were Bitra, Nabol and and Lemos Holds named after?
That should give you a little to think about. I'll post answers in a couple days?

Hmm this is an interesting one. In the first fall, dragonriders names were shortened. Who started the trend and what two riders names were never shortened?

Hmm...somebody has been rereading, first Dragon'sDawn, then First Fall!
So...are I figure we aren't supposed to post answers to avoid spoiling things for others. Is that correct?

OK, going strictly from a pretty old memory...dragons started the habit of shortening names during 'Falls. And Sean and Sorka were never shortened, respect outweighing expedience. So...am I right?

I have Dragonsdawn and First Fall to send you. Looking for Dragons Eye but might have to order it. Todd's books come after Dragon's Eye and before Moreta if you want to read those too.

I'll post answers in a couple days? 1. Parallel Earth, Resources Negligible. 2. Approximately 6,000 3. Buenos Aires, Yokohoma, and Bahrain 4. 8 5. Faranth was the 'senior' queen dragon from the first dragon clutch. She Impressed Sorka Hanrahan. She was NOT the first hatched queen, but due to Sorka's position as female leader of the first dragonriders, and probably Faranth's own personality, she came to be assumed as the first queen in later history. 6. 17 7. Avril Bitra, Nabhi Nabol, and Bart Lemos. None of the three were sterling characters and Bitra was definitely a 'bad gal' of the time. Nabol and Lemos did redeem themselves when they tried to retrieve Thread spores and crashed on the return. Of course, that crash was the result of their own arrogance. So were they heros, or were they egotistical glory hounds who's own arrogance led to their deaths, depriving the colonists of desperately needed samples?

Hmm this is an interesting one. In the first fall, dragonriders names were shortened. Who started the trend and what two riders names were never shortened? Dragons started this trend, and it was continued because the shortened names were easier and faster to shout from one dragon to another while flying. Some riders never had their names shortened, and it was thought to be a gesture of respect to a leader. Sean's name was never shortened, nor was Sorka's. EDIT: and I posted this before I saw someone else had answered it first!

From memory. I used to put together all the questions/answers for the Pern Trivia game at Weyrfest. And I tend to have a fairly good memory for details from things that I've read.

Good for you!
Here is another for you. What ancient Earth monument was used as a model on Pern?
Interesting fact from Todd's books. Up until about the 4th pass there were women still riding greens but because holders could get more land through their daughters marriages, they were reluctant to let girls be searched. Also because of female riders (greens) pregnancies, they started just using men in the fighting wings. It finally got where the dragons choice weyrbred.
