Congratulations to all of us!
We have a hefty zine with several pieces of lovely artwork thanks to Erica, Kitty, and Deb Z.!
There are bound to be some errors - even professionally published novels have errors. But in the whole, I'm happy with how the zine turned out. Now comes the test: are you happy with it?
If you have any ideas or recommendations for improvements for next issue, please let me know!

I second my congratulations, to the authors and editors (and artists) of Out of the Blue. It looks lovely (I haven't read anything yet--just had my coffee), but it certainly looks clean, neat and professional. And so many stories! Can't wait to dive in.

I'm happy to have it... though I'm somewhat concerned that my story wasn't included (though it was on the most recent "submission status" list) and nobody told me.

ARGGHH!!!! We missed a story? <Banging head against wall repeatedly.>
I'm afraid your story was a victim of our learning curve. I'm really, really sorry. We would be happy to put it first in the queque for issue 2 (which gets it the best chance of an illo) if that works for you?

We missed a story?! Bugger it. But we can fix this. Chantal, Hope, has the story finished the editing process? If so, ship it to me and we'll get it in and republished today. And if the miss was MY fault...you have permission for a free whap, Thom. I am SO sorry!

It was a last minute submission, so I understand if it slipped through the cracks. I'll let you guys decide whether to stick it in and re-publish or hold it until the next issue, although my preference would be to let it be read.

I haven't had a chance to read the stories yet but I did read the memorials to Kris. I think it would have surprised her to know she was so well thought of. When she came up to see me in the early 90's, she was very shy at first but by the time she got ready to leave she was teasing my husband like they had been old friends. Mike and Tina adored her. It surprised her that I could go down town and know a dozen or more people at the store. She said she had lived all her life in the same place and didn't even know her neighbors. Through Pern and the computer she had the chance to meet and react with a lot of people. Like the ripples in a pond, she touch so many lives. I can't wait to get busy reading the stories. And the artwork is gorgeous! Good work all around. Can't wait for the next issue.

Thom--I owe you a deep apology. I read/edited "Schism" and thought I had forwarded it to Anna, but it appears that I didn't. I am glad she was able to add it in, because it's a good story about Saxon and T'nant. I couldn't remember the title when she asked Hope and me about it, but once I saw it in the zine, I recognized it.
Re the zine in general--Great job, everyone! I loved the stories, and the art was magnificent.
Hope--You made me fall over in a dead faint with the end of the story mentioning B'gorl and Allee.
Aerden would like to meet Tanaver. I'm now very curious about him. (g)

Congratulations to all of us! On one note--I'd like very much to congratulate all the folk who participated and put their energy and effort in. It's great to see SP10 going and growing! However, in response to this... I do have to say my piece. I may not be welcome here after I've said it...but que sera sera. There are bound to be some errors - even professionally published novels have errors. But in the whole, I'm happy with how the zine turned out. Now comes the test: are you happy with it? I'm probably going to piss folks off with this post, but I've been chewing it over and if I don't actually say something I'm going to end up walking away from the group. Something I really don't want to do. I wish I could feel good about my part in OOTB 26. But I can't. I don't. The why of it is simple--2 of my stories and 1 "letter" which were completed before the 1st deadline were submitted. I made the assumption (apparently erroneously) that there were no problems with them as I did not hear back from anyone else regarding problems, issues or the like. Like everyone else I was excited about the forthcoming zine. I was looking forward to reading everyone's work, and seeing my pieces there as well. As someone who had not played in StarRise before I felt it was a great chance to introduce my new people while others did the same. I made sure that my stories were submitted before the end of the first deadline, because I appreciate that there is a lot of work in the editorial process. Disappointed doesn't really describe how I felt when my stories were nowhere to be seen. I actually couldn't believe that they weren't in there. No explanation given, no warning. Nothing. It hurt. I'm sure it wasn't personal-- but when we have posts that say it doesn't matter how many stories you write for the zine, there's plenty of room--and then not to have mine in it...well. Yea. When I emailed about it I was told that one of the editors should have gotten in touch with me. That there were continuity issues. If someone had contacted me before the zine came out I would have been able to amend things. As it was I didn't find out until after the zine was launched. I know mistakes happen. But speaking frankly this has seriously dampened my enthusiasm for this zine to the point that it is almost killed. Add to that it will be a good what, 6 months before the stories I wrote might be seen? No, I'm not happy with it. I'm glad other folks have enjoyed the process. I just wish my experience had been better.

Erica--
okay, that goes beyond "minor problem". I don't know what happened, and all three of us are looking into it now, but you are perfectly right...it is unacceptable that stories of yours were submitted on time, were not published for whatever reason, and you were not notified. I do not know if the stories needed rewrites; if so, we should have informed you, so that you could have done them for the second deadline. More than likely there was an error of communication, and we need to trace it down, and see where and how it happened. We are all very distressed on your behalf, and for the zine. As has been noted in another heading here, we enjoy your writing!
We caught Thom's story being omitted in the first 24 hours, which was very helpful; I'd like to ask ALL of you to please let us know if we have failed to do as we've promised, or if you catch us in an error. That is the ONLY way we can improve.
Again, Erica, you have our sincerest apologies. We'll have more to say when we figure out how we screwed up.
--Hope

Erica--I had no problem with any of your pieces; I enjoyed them all. Let me check and see if they were attached. I know there were at least two stories that I sent to Anna, and she wrote back to me and said nothing was attached, so it may have been a problem with my attachment function, and she never got them. There is definitely no fault on your part; the stories were fine, and I certainly intended for them to be included in the OOTB.

Erica, I'm going to send you an email. I think we can fix this. And, as I said before, I am so sorry for the series of miscommunications that led to your stories not being included in the first publication. Problems like this help iron out the kinks, but the unfortunate consequence is that you are the one who bore the brunt of discovering it.
