*hugs* Sending much good Mojo your way, Hope. There isn't a lot that mere words on a screen can do to help but know that your friends are thinking of you and will be there when you need a bit of emotional pick-up.

Hope--Oh, no! Yes, your stapdad probably could use some respite, right about now. It's just like my Dad being run ragged trying to look after my Grandma, aunt, and cousin when my aunt had her stroke, before my cousin Linda got there.
We'll keep you all in our prayers, Hope. Please keep us posted on how your Mom is doing, if you're able to.
*Hugs*

In the latest installment of "My Life Is A Soap Opera"--Charles' Mom had a stroke Wednesday night. Thursday was Leah's 10th birthday. We called Susan (Suki), our near-saintly back up, arranged for her to take the kids over night, stayed long enough for Leah to open her presents at breakfast, then took off for Albany. On the plus side, it is a fairly small stroke, impairing the coordination of speech, her right hand, and her right leg, but not apparently effecting her mind. I was able to talk to all her doctors, therapists, and the social worker, and had it arranged for her to do rehab 3 miles from us...but insurance refused to pay for it, so she's stuck there. Charles is still there, I'm home, Leah's party is Sunday, Charles birthday is tomorrow, and I may start screaming insanely at any moment. But other than that, I'm pretty good.

In latest news, Suki ended up in the hospital shortly after watching the girls (she's better now), Charles' Mom had a huge bleed and lost half her blood the day before she was supposed to move in with us, but is doing Ok in the hospital, AND Charles was just admitted to the hospital tonight with severe pneumonia.
I may not be around as much as I'd like in the foreseeable future.
Prayers, however you conceive them, remain welcome.
I'm going to eat chocolate and dye my hair red. It seems the only reasonable response.

I agree: chocolate and red hair do seem like reasonable responses.

Charles is home, weak but improving. Hopefully now I'll actually sleep!

I'm so glad he's home (and improving)! Get some rest, both of you, and give him our love.
(And happy anniversary!)

Thanks! i don't have as much for him this year as I'd like, but I think he'll understand.
My hair is...um, not subtle. I think it looks good, but a little startling. Still, as I've said, a better response to stress than alcohol.
Now, if we can just get Charles well before his Mom moves in....

In latest news: Charles' Mother did move in right after Memorial Day. Things were (relatively) calm until she caught a cold Saturday. Yesterday she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. Her doctor, my boss, was on vacation for the day. Guess who was the only covering doctor? In amongst admitting her and a woman with a stroke, I got to spend my evening holding an elderly septic patient to life with teeth and fingernails, fortunately with the help and support of an excellent young ER doctor. Bless the young ones who will still put in central lines in the ER.... Got home about 9pm. Update on Mom and the other patients is good this AM, and her doctor is back. 34 days until I don't do hospital any more.

State of Insanity: Mom has been home from the hospital 6 days. Was getting steadily weaker, and found she was dehydrated, hypotensive, and generally over medicated. Also hypoxic...so meds have been cut, and she was started on home oxygen last night. Today, she was enough better to harangue and harrass Charles for hours on end. This is a good sign for her health, but makes me doubly nervous that I and the girls will be away all weekend. The implications of chronic oxygen in the house are starting to sink in. Girls are generally unphazed by all of it. Visiting my pleasantly demented mother weekend after next may feel like a vacation.

Oh, Hope. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I'm so sorry for Charles, and I wish you and him strength and solace during this ordeal. But when I read this: I realized we need a new laughter .gif. You had me on the floor howling.
