A
history spanning over twenty years of writing.
A timeline reaching back to the beginnings of Pern fandom.
A focus on creative, strong writing, with room for writers of all skill
levels to learn.
A liberal group that embraces ideas and new concepts.
No gimmicks, no tricks. Just cool people, good writing, strong characters,
and solid plots of all kinds.
It's a place like no other, and there will never be another place like it.
This is the virtual component to StarRise Weyr,
a fan club based on Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. StarRise
Weyr is primarily an amateur writer's club. Members create Pernese "personas"
and write stories based on them for our quarterly fanzine, Out Of The Blue.
Writing stories is not mandatory, however. Many StarRise members enjoy simply
reading the fanzine or participating on our bulletin board.
Cait - rider of gold Naleuth « Thread Started on Oct 30, 2009, 2:56pm »
Character name: Cait Gender: Female Occupation/rank: Goldrider Birthdate: 196.07.10 Birthplace:
Hair: Just past shoulders and wavy/curly. Brown with lighter brown and honey colored streaks.
Eyes: Oval, green/gold in color.
Build (height/weight): Average. 5’7”. Healthy weight. Not super skinny but not fat either.
General appearance: Rather ordinary. Doesn’t dress extravagant. Wears mostly basic tunic and trousers with boots. Will wear a dress on occasion for a gather or something where formality is required and expected. She keeps her hair tied up for riding or lightly clipped back for formal occasions. Beyond that she tends to just let it hang. It has a perpetually tousled or windblown look because she is constantly running her hand through it (habit when she’s thinking or stressed).
Sexual orientation: Hetero
Firelizards: None
Personality:
Blunt. Hard working, stubborn. Tends to snowplow folks when things aren’t getting done to her satisfaction of efficiency or quality. Sometimes comes across as cold and bossy. Well, she is bossy but doesn’t try to be cold.
Quirks:
Cait doesn’t drink generally but if she does drink to excess she gets… loud and… flirtatious. Especially with the younger guys. She doesn’t currently have a weyrmate and has never had one for very long.
General history:
Cait grew up in Ruatha River Hold. Her father was a seaman and her mother a weaver. She despised fish and while she tried her hand at weaving for a brief period of time, she realized it was not for her. Her skills lay in organization and she was put to work helping the hold’s Headwoman at the age of 15. Content in obscurity she settled down into the role of assistant and was quite well prepared to live out her life as a domestic, perhaps aspiring to the position of Headwoman herself one day.
Vallath changed all of that the Turn Cait turned 20. Riders came on Search from Fort one sunny day and all the youngsters were rounded up to meet them. Cait, being quite certain she was neither exceptional, nor dragonrider material, continued on with her duties. Annoyed that the drudges had abandoned their duties to “scurry out to the courtyard to gawk at the dragons” she picked up where one had left off, carrying buckets of slop out to the midden heap.
While on this task she met Vallath, one of the smaller blues that had come on Search. His attentions were enough to draw the further attention of his rider, who came to see what had his dragon so excited. That meeting changed Cait’s life.
She was Searched to Fort to stand for the queen hardening on the sands and, to her amazement, Impressed Naleuth.
Timeline:
16.08.19 – Searched to Fort Weyr 16.9.30 – Impressed Naleuth 35.??.?? – Transferred to Sable Weyr

You are feeling sleepy...sleepy...totally relaxed. An idea forms in your head, totally your own. You want to do tons of art for StarRise. It's almost a compulsion. In a moment you will contact Anna about doing art. 3...2...1...
OK, you can't blame me for trying. Or, phrased differently, I really liked the picture.

For me, the art is just a side-line thing though. I don't devote enough time to it to do anything spectacular with it. I'm slow and still lack a great deal of skill in many things.
First and foremost I'm a writer (or would like to be one!) and that is where I'm dedicating my energies lately. The amusing part is, I got my creative side from reading comic books. At a young age it seemed to me that drawing and writing went together so I started working on both. I didn't realize that someone drew the comics and someone else scripted them. When I hit fandom heavily I chose to focus on the writing and now just use the art as a relax time. Sometimes I'll need to do a character drawing or portrait to help cement the character in my mind. But for the most part, I'm a writer. Not an artist.

Kitty--I like Cait's sheet a lot and look forward to meeting her in-story. And Hope's right--that illo of Cait is lovely! The facial musculature looks great!
Hope--She did the illo of Aerden that appeared in our first issue, too.
