A
history spanning over twenty years of writing.
A timeline reaching back to the beginnings of Pern fandom.
A focus on creative, strong writing, with room for writers of all skill
levels to learn.
A liberal group that embraces ideas and new concepts.
No gimmicks, no tricks. Just cool people, good writing, strong characters,
and solid plots of all kinds.
It's a place like no other, and there will never be another place like it.
This is the virtual component to StarRise Weyr,
a fan club based on Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. StarRise
Weyr is primarily an amateur writer's club. Members create Pernese "personas"
and write stories based on them for our quarterly fanzine, Out Of The Blue.
Writing stories is not mandatory, however. Many StarRise members enjoy simply
reading the fanzine or participating on our bulletin board.
Re: Stories in Progress for 28/3! « Result #1 Today at 7:51pm »
OK, people, we have 20 stories promisised. I believe that one has been submitted, and I've seen rough drafts of 2 others. Now that I am finally allowed to read again...I WANT STORIES!!!!!
Hmmm...now I'm wondering if I can get away with writing 3, or if I'll really need to write 4. Four, definitely.... Plot just popped into my head as I was posting this. Muahahahaha!
Er...um. We now return you to your regularly scheduled writing frenzy.
Re: I matched!!! « Result #2 Yesterday at 7:45pm »
Utica looks to be an hour west of Albany, Syracuse about 40 minutes further from Utica. We are about 2 1/2 hours east of Albany, which makes us neighbors!
When are you guys respectively moving? We might want to consider AlbaCon....
Re: Issue 28/3: Deadline Approaches! « Result #4 on Nov 29, 2009, 9:11pm »
Hmmm. What sort of pic are you looking for as cover art? I'm still at the building stage with the set pieces, but I should be able to fire up something appropriate, if it's not too complicated. I need to stick to relatively simple, until I get some sets completed.

Issue 28/3: Deadline Approaches! « Result #5 on Nov 29, 2009, 2:46pm »
Now that NaNoWriMo is done (or close enough to be no nevermind!), it's time to turn our attention towards our next issue!
Deadlines
Deadline for stories: February 1st. Deadline for art: February 20th. Publication date: March 1st.
Stories can be submitted at ANY time! Please don't wait until February 1st to send in that finished story! We edit as soon as we get them, so the longer we have to nag artists into illustrating your story, the better! Otherwise you'll be stuck with whatever I can concoct at the last minute. Please don't do that to me.
Art
FILLER ART is greatly appreciated! And remember! Sizable pieces of art can substitute for a story in meeting your support requirements!
I NEED COVER ART!!!! Who wants to volunteer?
Theme of the Issue
The theme for this issue is changes. Big changes, small changes, everyone-knows-about-it changes, changes only your character knows about.
Events
Some events that either happened last issue, or happened after publication and can be referenced in this issue:
1. Weyrwoman Melina retired and transferred to Sable Weyr. 2. Goldrider Zial transferred out. 3. Goldrider Alissi was injured at Theran Weyr and is not at StarRise until full recovery. 4. There was an assassination attempt on Wingsecond M'teo and his attacker was killed by one of the Weyr's guards. 5. As of 33.05.12, there's a new dragonhealer at the Weyr: bronzerider K'nelan. 6. On 33.10.02, after the Hatching, a play was performed for the weyrfolk by fellow dragonriders and lower caverns workers, but the last act was never finished because the set was ruined by brownrider T'migen and brownrider Caleigh. 7. Wingleader B'gorl actually has a Significant Other. The mind boggles. 8. A murder convict is Searched and brought to the Weyr on 33.11.22 9. Something is Going On with greenrider Kadyra and Holder Ashlon.... 10. As of 34.03.01, the Weyr has a new master healer (Zabryna) and a Weyrharper (Brant). 11. As of 34.05.27, the Weyr has a new Wingleader (D'gon) and the truth about Tarina's son's parentage comes out. 12. After the Horizon Hold Gather on 34.08.01: * Baseball is introduced to the Weyrlings. * Goldrider Taveera is pregnant. * Headwoman Sairi was attacked (and rescued) at the gather. * D'ven shows marked interest in a crafter * A new bluerider to the Weyr displays a persistent and possessive pursuit of Wingsecond Evlyn. 13. Goldrider Miyako visits StarRise Weyr, makes an impression on Wingleader K'leren, then transfers in on 34.10.04.
These are just some events - I'm sure there are others!
Character Support
Remember, rank 1 characters require two stories a year for support. Rank 2 characters require one story a year for support. I recommend getting all you support reqs done in the first zine of the year, that way you have the rest of the year to just play! Check here for what characters require what level of support: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tWpU3uFd_fcGf2cxKMTbvNA&output=html

Another of my cousin's did some checking and that the address in the first post was wrong.
The correct address is: Mail for Heroes PO Box 5456 Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

My pleasure. I'm having fun with this. I get a week off in December, which will give me some time to model. BTW, if your love of dragons is not limited to the pernese variety, then you have GOT to see this.
